Farmer to Farmer: Nicaragua

Farmer to Farmer envisions flourishing rural communities where once broken relationships are being restored; where all are respected as image bearers of God, where all can provide for their families because there is freedom to work and engage in business, and where all can glorify God by loving Him and their neighbors and by faithfully stewarding His creation.

“A Deeper Look At Poverty” – A Video from the Chalmers Center

We View Poverty Differently.

We believe that poverty is less about a simple lack of material things and it is more about broken relationships (with God, ourselves, others and the creation) caused by our sin. A proper understanding of the true nature of poverty is absolutely necessary for any alleviation effort. This video from the Chalmers Center is an excellent, concise description of poverty and a good introduction to our values.

Partnership Approach

As a group of North Americans trying to help in Nicaragua it is imperative to develop strong, trusting partnerships with local Nicaraguan community institutions, who then carry out the day to day activities in the field.  Since we are a Business Affiliate of Partners Worldwide, we utilize their model of partnership.

Land Ownership for Landless Farmers

Since this program began in 2003 over 110 families have been given the opportunity of land ownership.  It has never been a give-away program.  These families have worked hard, endured many challenges and earned their land titles.  This program has been successful in bringing families out of extreme poverty, bringing them to full food security, and setting them on a path to financial stability.

Rural Value Chain Development

We develop rural agricultural value chains, so that marginalized and poor farmers have better inclusion in local, domestic and international markets.  We invest in wealth-creating enterprises and projects that provide products and services such as agricultural and business training, access to capital (or inputs in exchange for product at harvest) and access to markets.
